STAKEOUT Kayaking
Have you ever wanted to go to the Ottawa during their spring high water season but not known how? Have you ever wondered what it might be like paddling down the infamous Coliseum rapid at 17ft higher than normal summer flows? Are you keen to test your kayaking on some of the bigger waves and rapids that come in on the Ottawa when the river is higher? If you answered yes to any of these question then this might be the trip for you!
During the spring melt all of the ice and snow accumulated from the winter begins to melt, causing the Ottawa river to rise up to 30ft higher than the typical flows seen during the summer months, and with it and an almost unlimited amount of play and freestyle potential. This trip is situated at the back end of the spring melt season, when levels have started to drop but the river is still higher than the typical levels, providing new rapids, new waves and new challenges for the keen playboater.
Our days will be a mixture of high water river laps and focused coached freestyle sessions on the best feature at the time. Water levels are highly changeable at this time of year so you never quite know what you’ll end up surfing but whatever happens, you know you’ll be surfing some of the best waves in the world…period!
