Our trip

Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, 4-day rafting expedition from Zambia and Safari in Botswana! Experience the adventure of a lifetime!

4-12 people

Zambezi Expedition

First, we will land in Zimbabwe. Lunch overlooking the Batoka Gorge, walking while admiring Victoria Falls, interaction with elephants or the Devil’s Pool are just an introduction and a foretaste of what awaits you during the Zambezi expedition.

The Zambezi River is rightfully one of the most famous white-water rivers in the world. Our four-day rafting expedition through the Batoka Gorge will take us on a 60-kilometer journey from Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

Spectacular views and African sunsets while camping on sandy riverside beaches at the bottom of the gorge provide a perfect finale to a full day of paddling in warm water.

To complete the African adventure, upon our return we will embark on a three-day safari in Chobe National Park in Botswana. Forget National Geographic – seeing enormous animals living in their natural habitat is an experience that will stay with you for a lifetime.

On this trip

  • 4-day “all-inclusive” rafting expedition down the Batoka Gorge
  • Walk above Victoria Falls
  • Interaction with elephants at The Elephant Cafe
  • 3-day Safari in one of the most beautiful national parks in the world
  • Safari cruise on the upper Zambezi
  • Devil’s Pool

Adventure Holidays!

The trip plan may change depending on the group and weather conditions.

Day 1: Arrival in Zimbabwe

Welcome to Zimbabwe! You will be picked up from the airport and transferred to your accommodation to relax after your long journey. In the evening, we will head out for dinner at the Lookout Cafe, which is located right above the Batoka Gorge with an amazing view of the river.

Day 2

In the morning, we’ll set out for a walk along the Zimbabwean side of the falls to see one of the 7 wonders of the world from this beautiful perspective. Then we’ll head to lunch while watching the famous vulture feeding, and in the afternoon, we’ll cross the border into Zambia and check into our accommodation in Livingstone.

Day 3

This day includes a visit to Elephant Cafe, where you’ll learn about the history of this place and the unique method of working with these magnificent animals – elephants. Here, trained without violence, like puppies, they allow themselves to be touched, fed, and spend time in their company. Afterwards, a meal awaits us. We’ll watch the sunset at Royal Livingstone where we’ll go in search of giraffes.

Day 4

We’ll experience high emotions today – in the morning we’ll head to the legendary Devil’s Pool, where you’ll be able to lie at the edge of the waterfalls and look down over 100m below! In the afternoon, we’ll take a safari cruise on the upper Zambezi while watching the sunset.

Day 5 - rest day

If you’re still hungry for action, there’s a possibility to participate in a wide range of adventure-filled activities (not included in the tour price). Optional activities include bungee jumping, gorge swinging, helicopter rides, motor glider flights, fishing expeditions, and these are just a few of the options!

Day 6

It’s time for our rafting expedition! After a hearty breakfast, we’ll head to Boiling Pot, directly below Victoria Falls. Few people have the chance to venture into this region due to its inaccessibility. This includes a short transport to the top of rapid #1, followed by rafting upstream through a large whirlpool to see the amazing minus rapids and Victoria Falls from the base of the gorge! Then after lunch, you’ll embark on a rafting expedition downstream through the biggest rapids of the Zambezi. We’ll set up camp after rapid #10. Your LiLi guides will prepare dinner in the gorge while you’ll have time to set up your tent and rest after a long day.

Day 7

After breakfast, we’ll spend the day slowly rafting downstream. Today we’ll navigate rapids #11-#25. A light lunch will be served on the river before we make our way to the beach below rapid #25. Upon arrival at the white sandy beach in camp, our guides will prepare sunset drinks and dinner while you relax and admire the magnificent scenery. You’ll enjoy a campfire in the gorge and camping on the beach along the riverbanks.

Day 8

After breakfast on the beach, we’ll begin our longest day on the river. We’ll cover about 24 km, navigating through various large and small rapids on a rarely traversed section of the Zambezi. This is where the expedition into the wild stretches of the river truly begins, as only a few brave adventurers venture this far. Lunch will be served on the riverbank along the way. In the afternoon, we’ll reach Upper Moemba Falls. This is the last rapid of the day and one of the best on the entire river! Tonight, we’ll have dinner and set up camp right next to Lower Moemba, which is truly a spectacular display of the Zambezi’s power.

Day 9

After spending the night camping next to Lower Moemba, we’ll float just below it (when you see it, you’ll agree this is the best plan!), and then head downstream to the Ghostrider rapid, an iconic, rarely seen and enormous rapid that provides a fantastic conclusion to the four-day Zambezi River expedition.

We face a 0.5-1.5 hour climb out of the canyon. You should prepare for a solid ascent. For those interested, it’s possible to arrange a spectacular helicopter return for an additional fee. For the rest, after exiting the canyon, we begin our drive back to Livingstone through traditional villages and return in the afternoon, tired and satisfied after four epic days on the river. Time to rest and remember the best moments!

Day 10

Time to rest. If you still have energy buzzing within you, check out the activities from day 5.

Days 11-13

Time for Safari! We’ll set off very early in the morning for the Botswana border and begin our journey into Chobe National Park, where we’ll spend two nights camping while tracking and following the trails of wild animals. On the last day, we’ll return in the afternoon, crossing the border back into Zimbabwe.

Day 14

Time to return home!

Is This the Right Trip for Me?

This is the cream de la cream of what you can do in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. We’ve selected our favorite and most exciting attractions and created a trip we’ve always dreamed of. It will be a trip full of adventures, but most activities require a moderate level of physical fitness. Contact us if you have any doubts!

How to buy a plane ticket?

We recommend flying to Victoria Falls. It is the simplest way to reach the areas where we will be traveling.

What to take with you?
  • Sunscreen and sun hat
  • Good hiking shoes for the gorge and safari
  • Comfortable sandals and light, comfortable clothing, personal items and personal belongings If you have any questions about what is needed or what equipment to bring, simply send us an email, and we’ll be happy to help.
  • Additionally, it’s worth budgeting about 300-400$ for meals in restaurants
Will my equipment be safe?

Our accommodation will have a special place for documents and valuables. All locations are guarded, but nonetheless, Zambia is a third-world country – we definitely advise locking up all valuable items and taking only the minimum you need on your travels.

What vaccinations or antimalarial medications will I need for my trip?

We are not doctors and do not pretend to be… Please contact your primary care physician well before departure. They will provide all necessary information.

What weather to expect?

Weather in Zambia largely depends on the season. During the LILI Zambezi trip, it will be the beginning of the dry season / very end of the rainy season. The weather will likely be hot and dry, with warm water, although strong winds might occasionally cool it down a bit. Bring clothes that will protect you from the sun. The temperature is pleasant in the evening and at night. There is also a possibility of encountering heavy rain – most likely at night. When it rains in Zambia, it’s no joke! Expect a tropical downpour that usually lasts only a few hours. It’s good to have something waterproof.

Will there be crocodiles and hippos?

In the section we’ll be rafting below the waterfall, there are small and medium-sized crocodiles. In the section of the Zambezi where we’ll be paddling, there are no hippopotamuses.

Of course, on Safari, we hope to see all kinds of African wild animals.
