This Camp is prepared to reinforce what basic courses teach and give people tools and knowledge to develop and continue falling in love with kayaking.

Kayaking in Austria

Based on our experience of organising program “Salza Whitewater training camp” in Austria for Polish University Clubs – we would like to extend the program and invitation to other befriended international clubs starting with you.

Goals of the camp:
– To share basic knowledge appropriate for level post a introduction course
– To teach a WWSR, First aid and become competent members of the group
– Get to know paddlers from other clubs and make international bonds for future kayak trips
– Test your skills and knowledge on final exam
– Basics of Freestyle and moving in hole boating

On this trip

  • 14 days camp with 10 days of training on the river including 3 river runs.
  • Lectures on Basic techniques in Kayaking, Whitewater safety & rescue practices and
    theories, First Aid, Knots and Z-Drags
  • True kayaking experience to be shared with fellow participants

Salza Development Camp

Arrival to Wildalpen

The journey to Austria can be made either by car directly or fly in by airplane.

When arriving by car just set Wildwasserzentrum Naturfreunde Österreich in your GPS.

If you are arriving by plane – the closest one will be Vienna airport. You can rent a car there or enquire for our shuttle. The drive is approximately 2.5 hour to Wildalpen. Shuttle one way costs 150 euro shared between participants.

If you choose to have a shuttle you will be picked up and driven to our accommodation where you will meet the rest of your travel companions. It is recommended to book the flights arriving before 3 pm. Please get in touch regarding your flight before booking it, we will try to synchronize everybody to minimize waiting time for each group.

Camping and logistics

Accomodation: Wildalpen Naturfreunde Camping

During Camp we stay at camping, but your accomodation can be upgraded for 10 eur per night (130 eur) to Dorms or for 20 eur per night 260 eur) pax to room [needs 4 pax sharing]

Food

All food is included except for two evenings in restaurant. We will be split into teams that will be paddling together. Each team will also be involved in cooking twice during the camp for each meal. [assistant + team will do the food preparation of lunch, breakfast and dinner. All ingredients and kitchen will be provided.]

  • Flights/transport to the beginning of the trip (pick up for airport available for at least two people from the group otherwise individual plans will be made)
  • Boats can be rented at bargain price for 150 eur and paddles for 50 eur or full set of equipment for 250 eur. [includes pfd, spraydeck, helmet]
  • Food (two evenings in restaurant)
What is the participant profile?

Participant is a kayaker that has completed a basic course in club for whitewater kayaking and wants to improve their technical abilities and knowledge to become a solid member of paddling group on WW III that doesn’t need assistance. They should have rolled the boat before. Ideally be able to do it in the moving water.

Participants will take part in paddling sessions along with multiple lectures. High intensity of the camp and knowledge should be expected. Each lecture will be followed by 1on1
exercises. Participant will test their skill in final exam that will include river running, rescue techniques and freestyle.

Graduate of program may be invited for following year as assistants (limited places)

Boats can be rented for 150 eur and paddles for 50 eur or full set of equipment for 250 eur. [includes pfd, spraydeck, helmet]
