Why do you Coach:
I coach because i like to help people get better and progress. I also like passing on my knowledge within kayaking to people who can benefit from it. The reward I get from seeing people progress helped by my coaching makes me really happy and proud, seeing their faces after smashing a new line or getting a new skill is awesome!
Why do you love kayaking?
Kayaking is a part of me. I have been kayaking since I was 7 years old and its all i know. The freedom you get from going to new places with your kayak and the locations it takes you is why I love this sport. Hanging out with your mates on the river can be some of the best days ever and finding new spots to kayak brings me so much joy.
Highlights from your kayaking life?
I come from a family of kayakers, My Dad, Uncle, Brother and Grandfather are all paddlers and from a very young age I was put in my first kayak and from there it was job done. When I was little I spent a lot of time paddling and practicing in the local pool sessions at home. This was key to my kayaking as the knowledge and skills passed down to me within such a helpful and supportive community helped me fall in love with the sport. After quite a few years at home doing the odd weekend river trip across the UK and French alps trips, I moved to Bangor in North Wales for university where I got 3 solid years of awesome boating across the whole of snowdonia and the rest of north Wales, Hitting the classics such as the Fairy Glen and Afon Mawddach. When at uni I met one of my best mates Seamus and at the end of our second year of uni we took a trip to the Ottawa river in Canada. Here is where I fell in love with the Ottawa and travelling for kayaking. Since then it has been constant planning and fantasising about the next trips and where I can go!
What’s something that people don’t know about you?
I drive a little hobbit car which I can somehow fit 4 boats on the roof (Mildly successful…).
