Kayaking in Galicia

Always dreamed of living next to the wave? In Galicia you need to walk just 100m to the put in and enjoy your surf session! It is an amazing chance to mix freestyle and creeking on one trip! Depending on the day and water levels we will either drive to the river or go for sessions. We may also end up doing river run in the morning and freestyle session in front of the house in t he evening!

Creeking we will focus on running the rivers that will have good water levels for the group. Within a short ride, there is a broad selection of rivers from easy to difficult and great places to practice and do the training laps! Once the wave comes in we may grab some extra afternoon sessions or spend a whole day on the wave if you prefer!

Upon arrival, you will be picked up and driven to our accommodation where you will meet the rest of your travel companions. It is recommended to book the flights arriving before 1 pm. Please get in touch regarding your flight before booking it, we will try to synchronize everybody to minimize waiting time for each group.

Accomodation: For whole duration of the trip we will be based in house “Casa De Piedra” Next to A Freira wave

Classic Day

III/IV

Depending on the group and preferences, we will be aiming to either run the river and do an afternoon session or have two sessions at the wave.

Rivers that we would typically like to paddle are:
Mino, Tea, Deza, Ulla, Cabe, Cavado*, Mouro, Vez while waves we would aim to catch wave in Ourense for basics of playboating and A Freira to enjoy medium wave surfs! It all dependent on the water levels tho!

If our last day river will be Cavado/Portugese side – we may depart from Casa de Piedra one day earlier and sleep closer to Porto to minimize travel. Accomodation included.

Upon arrival if there is time we hit the wave in the evening! Expect the days to be long, we start day with breakfast at 8-9 and head of to the river to be able to come back for the evening session on the wave. Depending on water levels and how far is the river that we choose, we may be late for evening session on the wave but we always try to get few surfing days!

Half Slice

This is a trip where you will be spending more time in one place actually practicing and improving your skills for controlling the half slice boat, learning tailees, flairs, skips, grinds and more.

Our coaching plan is based around different sections of Mino and Ulla where we will learn the sections and master the skills on specific parts revisitng them and helping to track and understand the progression. If levels allow one of the days we would go to Deza or Upper Mino to implement our skills on river section.

We plan to leave to the PORTO (OPO) airport in the morning. It is 2,5hour drive plus we want to be there 2 hours before the flight, therefore please look to book your flights after 1pm.

This is the draft of the trip. Based on the level of participants certain days might be adjusted

Personal paddling equipment (available to rent at an additional cost, let us know what equipment you need and we can arrange it for you!) – Kayak 110 euro for standard boats and 160 for premium Jackson Kayak boats & Paddle 55 euro per trip (Sherpa, Surge, Powerhouse) or 75 euro per premium (Double Diamond, Shogun). When renting please be sure to bring 2 air bags and additional hip pads/foam bits that you would have in your boat. We usually source private boats and these won’t have these pieces.

The trip is suitable for people that have experience on the rivers and feel comfortable at class III, have a reliable whitewater roll and want to paddle rivers of class III-IV and experience the local culture. The course will help you step up your game under the eye of professional kayakers with a high level of coaching and guidance. Also you will enjoy A frieira wave a lot if you are already able to surf the wave and drop in into it, however it may also be a good opportuntiy to work on it! Tho keep in mind that most likely after you flush you need to walk back up a little bit.

Do you want to paddle a Half Slice boat but don’t really know how to make all these fancy moves? Or maybe you don’t want to run hard rivers but still have fun? Also if you are a III paddler you can join that trip and enjoy the rivers and sections we do!

For creek week, it is best to take a creek that you feel comfortable in as we hope to still get water from rains and enjoy local rivers. If we get back in time during the day, we may still head for freestyle session. You can always rent a freestyle boat from us for 20 euro per day of using. If you prefer not to fly with your creek and rather take a playboat – you can just rent a creek. Just let us know what would you like to use from our fleet!

This is the project that we prepare for digital nomads or people that can work remotely and want to paddle in afternoons. Let us know if you would be interested and we will see what we can organise! In that week we will focus on adapting our plans to those that need to keep working but want to put in as much kayaking while doing it as possible. We will try to organize sessions for the  time of lunch brake and after work either hit the wave for the second time or head for the river. These days will be focused more about freestyle sessions.

The camp is suitable for both youth and adult paddlers. During the camp if our coaches are going to look after young paddlers, participants and their legal supervisors must agree to rules of camp.
